WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM NSSD?
NSSD is suitable for most individuals experiencing pain from mild to moderate herniated discs, sciatica caused by herniated discs, those who have not found relief from conservative treatments and those who would like an alternative to surgery. It is not recommended for everyone, particularly those with severe disc herniation, spinal fractures, tumours or certain types of advanced spinal degeneration.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR NSSD?
In order to determine whether you are a good candidate for NSSD, an Initial Consultation is required.
We will thoroughly review the patient history, conduct specific examinations and tests, as well as, analyse your X-ray, CT or MRI Scans.
Upon completion of the spinal assessment, we will advise you if you are a suitable candidate for NSSD.

HOW DOES NSSD WORK?
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression produces negative pressures within the disc through a series of specific automated pumping mechanisms. This reversal of pressure creates a vacuum effect that draws in bulging discs and extruded disc material back into place, whilst simultaneously removing pressure off pinched or irritated nerves.
Spinal experts have found that oxygen, nutrients and fluids are drawn to the disc during spinal decompression therapy. This revitalised environment facilitates the body’s own repair mechanism to heal the disc, returning it to its prior, healthy shape naturally.
WHAT ARE THE TREATMENTS LIKE?
During each session, you will be fitted with a harness designed to achieve optimal decompression of the low back or neck. As the tailored program begins to work, you will notice a slow and gentle lengthening of your spine, as your discs are gradually decompressed and relieved of pressure. The process is safe and relaxing. We advise you to wear comfortable clothing.
Some patients with extensive disc injuries have reported mild discomfort initially but this usually subsides with subsequent treatments. The RenuvaDisc unit offers a patient safety switch for extra reassurance, allowing you to stop at any point should you feel discomfort. Each treatment session lasts approximately 20 minutes.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL TREATMENT PROGRAM?
Whilst each case is different, it generally takes 8-12 weeks for a disc to heal with NSSD. For best results, 12-24 sessions over a 2-3 month period are recommended.
Patients with mild conditions will experience complete relief in as little as 4-8 sessions, whilst those with moderate or complex conditions may take 20-30 sessions over a 2-4 month period. However, results are not guaranteed in 100% of cases and some patients may still require surgical intervention.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS NSSD?
According to a study conducted by Dr. John Leslie of the Mayo Clinic, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is proven to be 88.9% effective for back and neck pain. Patients in the study suffered from chronic back pain, on average, for about ten years.
After two weeks of treatments, patients experienced a 50% reduction in pain. And after completing the entire six-week protocol of 20 treatments, Dr. Leslie documented an overall success rate of 88.9%.

STUDY: John Leslie MD and the Mayo Clinic 18th Annual Meeting American Academy of Pain Management, Tampa FL, September 5 2007. Multi-center, Phase 2, non-randomized pilot study utilizing spinal decompression. Designed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of spinal decompression in the treatment of chronic lower back pain.

OUTCOME: Patients enrolled - Average of 10 years of chronic back pain. After two weeks of treatment of spinal decompression - 50% Reduction in pain scores. Upon completion of the entire six-week protocol success rate of 88.9% was documented.

STUDY: Norman Sheily CN, Koladia N, Wesemann, M. American Journal of Pain Management. Long term effect analysis of IDD/ NSSD therapy in lower back pain: a retrospective clinical pilot study. July 2005;75,(3).
OUTCOME: Out of 24 study participants, each reported consistent pain relief and continual improvement of symptoms one year later. Improvement in pain continued after the treatment sessions were completed.

OUTCOME: The treatment leads to satisfactory pain relief and improved quality of life in up to 88% of patients, many of whom have failed other “conventional” approaches. ABOUT
Dr. Brad Free
Doctor of Chiropractic (Life USA)
Founder of Tweed Disc Decompression and NSSD Practitioner is Dr Brad Free. Brad completed his Doctorate in Chiropractic at Life University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA in 2005 graduating as Valedictorian (DUX).
​Prior to becoming a chiropractor, Brad was a professional rugby player. ​It was during his rugby career that Brad was hampered with a whole string of injuries, one after another, finally resulting in a neck surgery. However, after the surgery the neck never felt quite right. With medical choices exhausted, he was left with only alternative ones and thus found himself in the hands of a chiropractor who was able to correct the issue.
​
Brad became passionate about transforming the lives of others through chiropractic care in the same manner that he has personally experienced. After qualifying in 2005, Brad has treated thousands of patients in Brisbane, Gold Coast and at his clinic in Tweed Heads.
Away from the clinic, Brad would join his wife Vicky in robust renovations to their home and it was during this work that he was injured yet again. It started off with a stiff neck and shoulders, a sore lower back and then developed to nerve pain, numbness, tingling down his spine which escalated to the point where he was in constant pain and having limited sleep at night.
Surgery seemed like the only choice and Brad had consulted with a handful of surgeons, who all gave little to no reassurance of a complete recovery. Granted, age and previous surgeries were major factors but still, Brad had hoped for more. It was then that an industry colleague suggested the RenuvaDisc NSSD therapy. Having nothing to lose, Brad had immediately booked an NSSD treatment for himself.
